Introduce a new system whereby breweries, pubs and clubs have to pay inurance premiums (added onto the licence fee) into a newly created fund which entitled the NHS and police to claim against in relation to dealing with the incidences of drunken behaviour. The fund is reviewed annually on the basis of claims made and the premium is adjusted accordingly. Maybe this will stop binge drinking and make these organisations more responsible.

Age has become a disability! Starting a business at any age is difficult, at 50+ it is even more challenging! Any advice on this issue should carry a "Government Wealth Warning". The current government are only just getting to grips with the facts and realities of over 20 years of ageist discrimination across the workplace. Probabley because of this out of balance displacement of a large skilled and experienced sector of workers, who will probably never get the opportunity of a "proper" job again, the over 50s are being enticed and cajoled into going self empoyed: there is advice but little effective support or funding. AND certainly no safety net. There is no room or time to make mistakes at 50+, caution rules. Exciting times for some if they have the funds to create a sustainable business even if it is just for the fun of it! However for those over 50 that need to WORK to survive this type of self employment iniative can be no solution with out financial support.

As a single parent who works full-time to provide for my family I would like not just £242.00 per month tax free toward childcare but all the money spent on childcare tax free. Lots of single parents sit at home living on state hand outs, give plenty of support to parents like me who do not put a financial drain on our resources. Debs

I recently got caught by a speed camera on a dual carriageway. It annoys me that innocent hard working citzens like myself get punished for going a few mph over the limit while other people get away with assault, robbery and other more serious crimes every weekend or only get pathetic consequences when caught. Speed Cameras should only be fixed in built up areas where kids could get hurt. A few mph over the limit on a quiet motorway wont cause any harm.

Added by RICHARD on 29-11-2007
Well Another crime commited. A government that is not fit for purpose to add to the transport system, police education, hospitals the list is endless. How dare politcians treat the taxpayers of this country with such contempt, and I do not mean the present lot that are in power, but those waiting in the wings ready to jump on this gravy train. They have no sense of morality not conscience and certainly no honour. I now understand how a people can turn to dictators and the like.

I would like the DOE to change the traffic system into Belfast. I understand that bus lanes are important (you are charged a fortune to use public transport and without the lanes, you are guaranteed to be arrive), but this means the busiest roads are down to one lane in the mornings from 7.30am, but there are two lanes out (which are pretty quiet). A contra flow system like that in Cardiff would be ideal!

Abolish Working and Child Tax Credits and in their place increase tax allowances to cover the costs of child care, and allowances for disabled workers. Its crazy to tax with one hand and give back benefits with the other. The tax credits system costs a fortune to administer and non-one understands how it works, especially the people who have to claim the tax credits.

Now that smokers are forced to go outside for a cigerette it also effects those who do not smoke as in the summer we are unable to eat a restaurant meal outside as we will be affected by the smoking, there has to be another way so we do not have to be effected by smoke at all as we are being punished by choosing not to smoke.

influence government to adopt systems thinking in the way in which it approaches perfromance management across all departments instead of a top down driven easily measured numerical tragets - each from a dept silo perspective. Although there is alot of talk about changing (e.g. APACS) at the heart of the cancer of the current management approach appears to be the lack of the required cross cutting strategic thinking at the very top of the givnt depts at ministerial level. If this were addressed the benefits would be enjoyed by provate/public/ thrid sector and the public at large.

GPs are experiencing same patients returning to them several times due to lack of specialisation in their case in the GP surgery. and the consultanta are rarely available. in the current system no one could tell consultants to work extra hours. I would suggest if GPs should be allowed to hire consultants and Equipment on case by case bases , this would save money and could be incentive for the consultants to work longer hours and efficiently without any body telling them what to do.If a certain consultantant is not good enough he would not get customers.same is the Scans and MRI. i am sure the waiting list would disappear in a short time.

I would love to be more proactive when it comes to climate change but feel that governments, including ours, only pay lip service to the challenge. Changing light bulbs is a positive step but much more could be done in a similar vein. However, what they tend to do is to raise taxes. If time is so short what is stopping the government taking some major decisions that could help the negative climatic impact. Stop talking and start helping us help each other. Provide us with solar panels, improve public transport, remove unnecessary packaging etc, etc.

I would like to see the media back off Ian Blair. Beyond his error of judgement in asking the IPCC not to get involved in the De Menezes enquiry, he has not been found to be personally at fault in any of the subsequent investigations. The right wing media have been gunning for him since he took up his post, and are just using this as a way to drum up support for his removal, and the liberal media are displaying astonishing naivete in collaborating with the little Englanders of the Daily Mail. Since Blair took charge of the Met, crime in London has come down and real strides are being made in tackling diversity in the Met. Who would replace Sir Ian?

I would like to change the UK to "Small government". Where I live we have central government impact on roads and hospitals, Regional government leadership of EU directives, County Government running transport, education and social services, District Government running waste, housing and local services, and (FINALLY) a Town Council acting very locally within the community. This must be inefficient, terrifically wasteful and unnecessarily expensive. How can society influence policy thinking to significantly reduce government not simply add incremental initiatives that burden wealth creation?

Finance better free education, free youth entertainment, improved public infrastructure and health care with increased personal and corporate UK/EU taxation. Reduce armed UK interference in foreign countries and increase focus on diplomatic and commercial incentives and sanctions. Help develop poor countries; people with something to lose in a social capitalist world have less reason to propagate extreme fundamentalist religious views. In the UK prepare mitigations for a crash/slump in the property market to avoid existing home-owners carrying the full impact, without artificially retaining inflated property prices.

The admittance of people to the system. People gaining entry to this country (whether permanent or temporary) should be charged for treatment. They should without exception have medical insurance. This is how it works for the British abroad and how it should work in this country. If medical insurance cannot be produced, then the family should be applied to, failing that, then minimum treatment given or given offer to return to their own country for treatment.

Linked with the issue about (EMA) I feel and other students at my college that every student should recieve (EMA) even if their parents are earning more than £30.000 a year. I would like to change the inequality between the English, Scottish and Walsh. How can it be possibly justified that British citizens living in Scotland for example no longer having to pay perscription charges when people living in England do? Or why the Scottish can vote in both the British parliament (which no longer affects them as policy goes through the Scottish parliament) and in the Scottish parliament? This can not be a fair democracy surely!?! Why have we got this half-hearted devolutionised state? surely we are united or we are not!

Added by pete on 30-10-2007
We need less government control of what we do and a bigger democratic voice over what they do, eg nationwide public votes on big issues, such as whether or not to invade Iraq. We need genuine democracy and a country governed without double standards.

I would like to see compulsory voting in the UK to reduce the influence of all kinds of extremists and rebalance politics on the basis of the moderate majority. I would like to see a change in the UK Immigration law on 14years long stay for illegal migrants. Afterall what is the significance of the celebration of the 200 years abolition of slave trade, when migrants are not given the right to remain in UK until after 14years. This is slavery, because these migrants, live in perpetual fear of discovery for 14years and are fully exploited at all level. This paricular UK policy on immigration is out of tune with the rest of Europe which currently operates 4years long stay. Please we Africans want these changes to the law, afterall criminals who are sent to prison do get parole, not to talk of an illegal immigrants who continue to contibute economically to the development of UK. I would like to see the CSA abolished as it only tries to make figures look good for the governing bodies so as to justify its existance. the maintenance paid to the CSA does not reflect accurately what is given to the children that it is setup to maintain. In addition to this the amount taken is not means tested. I am a father to one and for personal reasons had to leave glasgow in scotland and move home to london in England. I try to get back to Glasgow to see my son but cannot afford to because of the amount of money the CSA are taking from me each month. I had originally been paying this to my exwife direct but due to the CSA system i cannot do this even though we are both happy with this? it should be abolished.

Remind Chief Constables that it is a misconduct offence for them to take an active part in politics. We do not pay people like Chief Constable Brunstrom to promote the politicisation of the British Police. He should enforce the law not meddle with it. He can resign and seek election as an MP if he wants to voice his opinion in public. The last decade has seen counless senior officers clammering for personal publicity. That is not what we pay them for. Part of their pay is an allowance for silence on matters of politics. We should also remind politicians that they are not police officers, they should keep their noses out of operational matters; this way it will be more difficult to blame one another when things go badly wrong. The edges of responsibility and accountability are becoming very blurred indeed. This suits people when they want to shift the blame or debate matters in comfort after the event. No one knows what their role is anymore and there will be more blood on the pavement if this is not sorted out. Chief Constables now dance like puppets to the tune of their political masters. Keep the police out of politics and empower them to protect us without hope of reward or fear of reprisals from Whitehall. Funnily enough those words describe part of the oath that police officers swear to abide by. What a joke certain senior Police Officers are becoming. Chief Constables wearing bowler hats and Members of Parliament wearing helmets. It makes John Prescotts impersonation of a Texan Cowboy almost reasonable.

What is happening to Britain? The British are being robbed by the government! They are nothing but legalised robbers. Where are our rights? Do we have any at all? It seems that only people living in Britain that are from another country have rights while we are the ones that are paying for everything with less & less disposable income every month, if in fact we do have any, most of us do not earn enough per month to cover the bills so have to constantly use savings or inheritance money to survive. How can this be right? I am disgusted that many of our pensioners are having to declare themselves bankrupt, when many have served for their country and worked all their lives. Why is our health service so understaffed? There are many tests etc that have been stopped in Britain due to costing too much but the British who live in other countries can still get this treatment. It is no wonder that thousands upon thousands of British are leaving this country for a better life. We too will be joining them in January 2008, we will be able to survive off our savings and retire early but if we stay in Britain we will have to get second jobs just to pay the increasing costs of our bills. There are stabbings locally daily & guncrime & in very nice areas of our country, why? why are people allowed to carry weapons? I do not mean this in a malious way but for goodness sake bring back Guy Fawkes. I could say fight for the British, but we are totally powerless and have a government that think only of themselves. Britain & the British are ruined. There is no way back. It is disgraceful.

I would like to see people go back to basics. We all moan about how Britian joined the EC and how we are fast becoming Americans. Yet we like to go on holiday there! Double standards or what? What we need to do is a little mre repsectful things like kindness, repect our elders, manners, how we speak to others. What we have is foul mouthed young people calling others names, swearing, and a whole lot of spitting. We are becoming what we moan about Americans. With bad attitudes, more and more young people not getting education and leaving school only to sit on their backsides because they think everyone owes them a life. What we have is fat, lazy young people wantoing more and more for nothing. I am 45 I have a son who is 15 he is in at dark, just like me when I was young he doesnt swear, smoke, binge drink becasue I know what he is up to at all times wheter he knows it or not. I have a good network of friends who also if they would see him doing something stupid would mention it to me. Ban the hoodies it is very intimidating. No one should be afraid to approach a 14 year old. Make parents responsible for their kids. They get picked up doing something anti-social you can be rest assured t more than likely comes from the parents behaviour. Kids learn things from home. If we are to continue the attitude of the Americans, adopt their attitude 3 times your out. Stonger repurcussions. Stop paying the kids to sit on their backside by limiting the dole to 12 weeks. It might make them think twice before sponging off the system. Stop payemtns to parents after 16 weeks it will make them look for work. We need to change with the times but go back to basics and adopt some of what we are learning from other countries, such as America. Back to basics like what we all talk abotu but dont do! Adopt some new options, all we need to do is basic thinking. good luck England we need it!

This way elected politicians will then do the bidding for the people that elected them and not run their party or own objectives

Immigrants outside the E.U are not here for benefits. All they need is work so that they take care of their poor relatives back home. Just give them may be 4years working permit and they will go every every where and do the donkey work. They can still be renting their own place, etc.

Equality within the United Kingdom with respect to the rights of the English to vote on purely English matters as is the case for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Rather than threatening the unity of the Union as the Labour party claims, this issue as it now stands is more likely to break up the Union if it is not addressed. But then, of course, the Labour party needs the Scottish vote to remain in power. Of equal importance is that the Labour party should fulfill its pledge in its election manifesto, to hold a referendum on the proposed European Treaty which is the old constitution in all but name - this has been stated by most other European Heads of State. Bureaurocracy within governments, but more particularly within the European Commission is the biggest threat to European unity and stability and the Union will implode if nothing is done to correct this situation.

I think something should be done about people that come here to live from abroad like eastern europeans. Some of them that come here pester people for money to feed there children. I had a lady stop me in Barking east London wanting money to feed her child or so she said and i also had a two year old child with me. It is so annoying and it is not the first time i have seen it happen why come here they should stay in thier own country. I do not know why the government is letting this happen something really needs to be done. I am not a racist i like many kinds of people i also have mixed raced children and it is hard for us to live here but we do not beg on the street.

I would like to see the end of people expecting others to work and being content to live off of our taxes. Some jobs may not be good enough for them, but they would be the first to complain if their rubbish was not collected or there were no bus drivers or the local toilets were not clean. Get a job and be proud of it!
