Production, distribution and supply of illegal drugs needs to be brought into international state control and wrestled away from the drug cartels whose business causes misery and destruction to millions each year around the world. This effectively means that the taxpayers of rich nations will be subsidising the cost of providing free drugs to those that crave it. However this also abolishes the profit motive for drug cartels and the knock on benefits and reduction in crime will mean taxpayers paying less financially and socially in other areas of society as a result of illegal drug trade. The end users can be assisted to break their habits with state support. The underlying social and psychological factors that lead to drug abuse can then be addressed. The abolishment of Prohibition and putting the control into commercial arena demonstrates that this absolutely must not happen with drug supply. The profit must be eliminated. It must be supplied free, or near as makes no difference, to the end users. Supported by the state, no questions asked, but with health support and education offered. The only people to suffer will be those making large profit from human misery. The rest of us will reap the benefits.

What I would like to change....
I would like to change the rate of crime in South Africa. I would like it to become the South Africa where everyone feels safe in their homes, not worrying about their houses being burgled while their at work, being robbed in the streets. I think this would make SA an even better country.

Introduce a new system whereby breweries, pubs and clubs have to pay inurance premiums (added onto the licence fee) into a newly created fund which entitled the NHS and police to claim against in relation to dealing with the incidences of drunken behaviour. The fund is reviewed annually on the basis of claims made and the premium is adjusted accordingly. Maybe this will stop binge drinking and make these organisations more responsible.

I would like to see the police allowed to do the job of reducing crime and not glorified administration assistants. Un-tie their hands and let them do what only they know how to do best. They know who the criminals are and who the decent members of society are. Let them stop the criminals and not a politically led mixture of a community. Stop asking them to fill out 32 page booklets everytime a neighbour hears someones TV on too loud and reports it as a domestic. Let them help to keep you all safe and try to understand not condemn!

Well Another crime commited. A government that is not fit for purpose to add to the transport system, police education, hospitals the list is endless. How dare politcians treat the taxpayers of this country with such contempt, and I do not mean the present lot that are in power, but those waiting in the wings ready to jump on this gravy train. They have no sense of morality not conscience and certainly no honour. I now understand how a people can turn to dictators and the like.

I would like to see the media back off Ian Blair. Beyond his error of judgement in asking the IPCC not to get involved in the De Menezes enquiry, he has not been found to be personally at fault in any of the subsequent investigations.
The right wing media have been gunning for him since he took up his post, and are just using this as a way to drum up support for his removal, and the liberal media are displaying astonishing naivete in collaborating with the little Englanders of the Daily Mail.
Since Blair took charge of the Met, crime in London has come down and real strides are being made in tackling diversity in the Met.
Who would replace Sir Ian?

I would like us to be more tolerant of each other, whilst espousing respect for law and order. I would like to see all parents accept responsibility for their childrens upbringing - including teaching them to read and teach them right from wrong. Knive and gun crime should lead to a minimum mandatory a jail term. Oh and a referendum on the current europe treaty

If there was no demand for drugs there would not be the vast supply !
There should be more funding going into drug treatment because at the moment if you are on Heroin and not " a celebrity" you may aswell forget about a rehab center or even a detox ! The waiting list for a detox programme in my area is about 6 weeks, so in the mean time you have to get the money to pay for your addiction somehow!
Heroin should be perscribed to addicts who do not want to stop using as methadone costs more to produce and is much more dangerous than Heroin !

Making parents responsible for their kids actions
Added by jenni c on 21-10-2007
give homeowners the right to protect thier own property if broken into, why should we have to be intimidated by those thugs firstly and secondly by the police for wanting to look after everything we have worked bloody hard for. hooligans, theives have more legal rights than the poor sod who is the victim.... justice, i think not.

Let parents be given power over their children in order to maximise respect in our societies
Added by Paul on 19-10-2007
I would like to see adults and children take more responsibility for there actions. Why should we have to put up with ignorance, abuse, and a lack of respect for anyone and everything? Our nation is slowly being eroded not only by anti-social behaviour, but by the abuse of power, whether it is in business, or public service. I know human nature is the same wherever you go in this world, but by living without discipline we simply become a fractured nation. We as individuals have to make the effort, it is not just the job of government. Perhaps we need a dose of discipline to bind the fractures, and a realisation that unless we care about eachother we will pay a huge price in the long term.

Stop paying layabouts to stay home and raise yob children! Make people take any job that they can do to get them off benefit, not let them wait for the one that they want.

I would like to see a life imprisonement term mean just that....life...never seeing the outside world again. I find it laughable that a person can murder someone and be free to do so again after a few short years. there is no deterrent in this country anymore. Also, in certain cases, (murdering policemen etc.) capital punishment should be brought back too.
Added by Anonymous on 13-10-2007
drugs are far too easy to get hold of and no one seems to mind there use anymore
they are taken as just part of our culture they should be banned altogether
Added by Beveridge on 12-10-2007
Party politics is an absolute joke. Simplify the system There should be only two parties. Bring back National Service, capital punishment. Restore disciplines in schools, at play, in the workplace. Build a climate that makes people resonsible for acceptable behaviour towards everything and everbody in their daily lives. Remember human rights are not handed to you on a plate , we have to earn them.

The anti social nature of the Labour government in the way they have divided the population of Britain into smokers versus non smokers and created a whole new prejudice which will take years to overcome.
Added by Pete Venner on 10-10-2007
Yes, a lot of people are killed on our streets by handguns, largely because they ARE banned and the only people with guns are criminals. These people would think twice if there was a strong chance that their intended victim - or even a bystander was armed.

Drugs should be taken more seriously, more severe actions to be taken by the police. This would result in a decrease of drug abuse in the UK.
Added by Dave Woodley on 05-10-2007
Give police vastly more power to deal with anti-social behaviour from teenagers.

I would like to be able to walk the streets of London safely with my family, without the fear of some scumbag witha knife or a gun accosting us. I would like to see no vandalised bus shelters, no offensive graffiti and no litter. I would like to see zero tolerance - as worked so successfully in New York City. I would like to see the back of Livingstone!
